Svartsö fisherman’s huts offer a simple and charming lodging with spectacular location and views.
Svartsö fisherman’s huts is located just by Alsviks on the island Svartsö just outside Stockholm city. A stone’s throw away is a well assorted shop where you can rent bikes, they also have postal service, payment service, possibility to order spirits and wines and some pharmacy supplies. There’s is also a café just on the waterfront which is open during the season. Nearby is a restaurant with excellent sea views and a community association which hosts a number of activities during the summer.
The four fisherman’s huts have two beds in form of bunk beds and a single cooker for simple cooking. In total, there are 8 beds. Each hut has an accompanying outside space on the pier. Duvets and pillows are included but we ask you to bring your own linen and towels. A shared space supplies with freshwater and cooking pots and houses a collective refrigerator. Facilities consist of an outhouse (privy) and there is no shower, but we recommend a refreshing swim in the Baltic Sea.
The huts are located just on the waterfront; we therefore recommend bringing life-vests for the youngest children.
You reach the island by boat departing from central Stockholm with either Waxholmsbolaget or Strömma kanalbolaget. The trip takes one and a half to two hours depending on the route. Always inform the crew on departing that your destination is Alsviks brygga.
There are 45 people living on the island permanently and there’s a school and library. The landscape consists of open farmland, forests and untouched nature with both rock and sand beaches suitable for bathing. The island stretches for about 6 miles and is roughly 1 mile wide and is tied together with well kept gravel roads perfect for a bike ride.
